Meet Runkeeper. An app that allows you to track your walks, runs, or in our case: rides.
Runkeeper uses GPS to track your location while you’re out, and gives you a satellite map of where you’ve been. It even keeps track of your average speed, distance travelled, and your time.
I love using this app, as I can keep track of exactly where I’ve gone, and anywhere I stop is marked on the map. I use this to keep track of my rides if I’m going anywhere I haven’t gone before, because if I find a cool spot that I’d like to revisit I just pause and resume my ride to mark the spot off on the map.
It’s also great for things like walking the dog, and you can see one of the walks I tracked with him to the left. Notice how it marks where you hit the 1 and 2 mile marks, where you began, and stopped. The map is very clear, easy to read, and accurate.
User friendly interface and sleek, smooth maps are the name of the game with Runkeeper. All you must do is select what kind of exercise you’re doing, and hit “start.” At the end of your outing, it gives you the option to save or trash the run. If you save it, it remains on your profile.
Speaking of your profile, did I mention Runkeeper has a social aspect too? Runkeeper allows you to publish your maps to your account for your friends to see. They can access these maps and see where you’ve gone, and it saves a lot of trouble trying to give your friends directions to that cool sand pit you found. You can even add pictures to your map, if your heart so desires.
I would recommend this app because of how useful it is, no matter what you’re doing, its user-friendly interface makes it very simple and easy to start a run, it’s incorporated social aspect and share tool, and the ability to customize everything, down to the voice that announces your progress to you. If you like to share your rides and routes with your friends, this is absolutely a great app for you.
